Russia to work on resuming flights with Georgia

Senator Karasin: Russia will work on resuming flights with Georgia The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called “the cessation of the Russophobic campaign” among the conditions for lifting the ban alt=”Russia will work on resuming flights with Georgia” />

Russia will work on resuming flights with Georgia. Grigory Karasin, head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, stated this in a conversation with TASS.

“Let's hope we will work in this direction,” — he said on the sidelines of the XIII International Economic Summit “Russia” Islamic World: KazanSummit 2022».

In January, the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that among the conditions for lifting the ban on air travel with Georgia— “stopping the Russophobic campaign”, “a more balanced policy” against Russia and the “disappearance of threats to security” Russians.

Moscow remains committed to the goals of normalizing Russian-Georgian relations and restoring bilateral ties, but such a process should be a “two-way street,” the ministry stressed.

Ban on flights with Georgia is temporary, the Foreign Ministry emphasized.

Russia severed direct flights with Georgia on June 21 amid protests in Tbilisi. The reason for the protests was that State Duma deputy from the Communist Party Sergei Gavrilov sat in the speaker's chair during the opening of the meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy in the Georgian parliament.

After that, the opposition Georgian parties “United National Movement” and “European Georgia” considered that a deputy from Russia cannot be in the Georgian parliament and take the chair.

The protesters demanded the resignation of speaker Irakli Kobakhidze and the holding of early parliamentary elections. Kobakhidze complied with their demands by resigning on June 21.

According to the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, flights of Russian airlines to the country ceased on July 8. Later, the Russian Ministry of Transport announced that from that date a temporary ban on flights to Russia of Georgian airlines would also be introduced.

The head of the Ministry of Transport at that time, Yevgeny Dietrich, then warned that due to the decision to close direct flights with Georgia, Russian airlines will lose about 3 billion rubles.

According to him, for two conflicting countries account for more than 25% of world wheat exports.

They are also leaders in the supply of fertilizers and vegetable oils.

The conflict in the framework of a special military operation of Russia led to the fact that the world lost a lot & #8220;the right grain”, and the price of fertilizer has risen to such an extent that the dependent countries are losing 20% of the remaining grain.

The Foreign Ministry responded to the UN with a call to lift sanctions in exchange for access to the ports of Ukraine

Anti-Russian sanctions can cause a food crisis, as they interfere with the normal trade in products, so they should be removed, the head of the UN WFP said in the Foreign Ministry, who demanded an end to the blockade of Ukrainian ports

With the same appeal to Russia at a special meeting of the UN on food security, the Secretary General of the organization António Guterres spoke. He stated that the world community should not interfere with the export of Russian goods, including food and fertilizers.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken opined that the situation with food security in the world has worsened not because of the sanctions. The restrictions imposed by Washington do not apply to fertilizers and agricultural products, he explained. International organizations and governments of different countries should join forces to achieve the opening of corridors for the safe export of food from the territory of Ukraine by sea and land transport, the Secretary of State believes.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly responded to accusations from the West about the impact on the food market. Vladimir Putin, in particular, warned the EU countries that they could face “intractable consequences”; because of the “continuation of the sanctions obsession.” According to the Russian president, the actions of Western countries have already caused famine in the world's poorest states. Erdogan says he does not intend to break off relations with Putin and Zelensky

According to the President of Turkey, the republic pursues a balanced policy towards both Russia and Ukraine and intends to continue “telephone diplomacy”

Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkey does not plan to break off relations with either the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, nor with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, quoted by Anadolu agency.

“We are pursuing a balanced policy towards both Russia and Ukraine. I do not intend to sever ties with either Mr. Putin or Zelensky. I continue my telephone diplomacy with Mr. Putin and Zelensky,— Erdogan said at a meeting with Turkish youth.

The politician noted: unleashing a new world war will not benefit anyone. The Turkish leader also said that the republic has “different relations” with Moscow and Kyiv. Speaking about cooperation with Russia, he mentioned the Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction. In addition, Turkey imports half of the gas consumed by the country from Russia.

Speaking about the desire of Finland and Sweden to join NATO, the Turkish leader once again stated that Ankara would not agree with the membership of these northern European countries. He explained the refusal by the fact that Helsinki and Stockholm allegedly pander to organizations that the republic considers terrorist. Erdogan noted that the country is determined to say no to Finland and Sweden.

Turkey has offered the role of mediator in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. On March 29, a face-to-face meeting of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place in Istanbul, after which Moscow and Kyiv handed over proposals to resolve the conflict to each other. However, since the beginning of April, the Russian side has repeatedly stated that the negotiations have reached an impasse. Erdogan, meanwhile, is seeking a personal meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
