The Network commented on the “crazy” Nancy Pelosi

“China won't joke”

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi traveled to Asia on July 30th. According to the latest reports from her press office, Pelosi has abandoned her original intention to visit Taiwan. Now only Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia and Japan are in her travel plan. Why the speaker of the lower house was afraid to fly to Taiwan becomes clear from the numerous comments of her compatriots and foreigners on social networks.

Earlier, the Chinese authorities said that if Pelosi visits Taiwan, despite the warning of the PRC, her visit will be considered a provocation. Foreign users on social networks also reacted extremely negatively to Pelosi's actions.

Hu Xijin, the former editor-in-chief of China's Global Times, posted a tongue-in-cheek message on social media: “Where is Pelosi now? Nobody saw her? Some say that she will sail to Taiwan in a submarine, others say that Pelosi will change into ordinary clothes and enter the island in disguise. What is she going to do to get away from us?”

A US citizen with the nickname “WhiskyHeal” suggested: “I think someone ordered Nancy to go to Taiwan to provoke an American war with China.”

A columnist with the nickname “News of Ukraine” noted: “The United States is in a stalemate: if Nancy refuses to travel, then America in the eyes of countries around the world will look like a coward, bowing to the power of the PRC. In the event that Pelosi does decide to visit Taiwan and the PRC is ordered to shoot down the plane, then the US refusal to start a full-scale war with China will also be considered cowardice. The PRC will not joke – the S-300 air defense system has already been brought to a state of readiness.

By the way, China has long had more advanced S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems.

User John Rock started spying on Pelosi's plane using a website that records the movement of air assets: “She just left Hawaii. She seems to be escorted by five planes at once.”

A user with the nickname “I can’t stand hypocrites” left an alarming message: “Writing this for the future generation on the upcoming visit of Pelosi: she was warned. Pelosi knows that Taiwan is a red line for China that she is about to cross. Joe Biden suggested that Pelosi change his mind. The US military asked her to stay in America. But stubborn Nancy flies to Taiwan anyway! If she nevertheless decides to take this step, then all the history books will be written about her extravagance, which entailed devastating consequences for the whole world.”

Trouble again in Baghdad as protesters storm Iraqi parliament

Shiite cleric's supporters tear down barricades en route to government zone

Thousands of followers of a powerful Shiite cleric stormed the Iraqi parliament for the second time in a week, protesting efforts to form a government led by with its rivals, an alliance of Iranian-backed groups. The alliance called for counter protests, sparking the specter of new civil unrest in a country torn apart by civil strife as a result of American aggression.

Photo: AP < p>Iraqi security forces first used tear gas and stun grenades to try to repel the demonstrators, who are followers of cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. Once inside, the protesters went on an indefinite sit-in and said they would not disperse until their demands were answered.

As the number of protesters increased, the police retreated, according to The Guardian. The expected parliamentary session did not take place, there were no deputies in the hall. By evening, the Ministry of Health reported that about 125 people had been injured in the violence — 100 protesters and 25 security forces.

Speaker of Parliament Mohammed al-Khalbusi suspended future sessions until further notice.

Earlier in the day, heeding al-Sadr's calls, demonstrators used ropes and chains to tear down cement barricades leading to the gates of Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses government buildings and embassies.

The development of events has shown that Muqtada al-Sadr used the grassroots of his supporters as a tactic to pressure rivals after his party failed to form a government despite winning the largest number of seats in the federal elections held in October last year.

With neither side seemingly willing to concede, and al-Sadr determined to thwart government-formation efforts led by his rivals, Iraq's uncertainty and political paralysis ushered in a new era of instability in the country.

Al-Sadr used his followers as leverage against rivals and ordered them to occupy parliament in the past — as in 2016, during the administration of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

Now, 10 months after the last election, the political vacuum is the longest since the 2003 US invasion to overthrow Saddam Hussein threw the country's political order into turbulence.

Al-Sadr's rivals in The coordination structure — the Iranian-backed and led by former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki Alliance of Shia Parties, — later on Saturday showed signs of internal divisions.

At first, the alliance called for “peaceful” counter-protests in defense of the state, raising fears of possible street clashes and inter-ethnic violence.

«Civil Peace — it is a red line and all Iraqis must be ready to defend it by all possible peaceful means,” — the alliance said. Three Shia officials said the statement was written by Nouri al-Maliki and militia leader and politician Qays al-Khazali.

Later, Hadi al-Amiri, also the leader of the alliance, issued a statement inviting our “dear brother” al-Sadr to “serious dialogue” in order to find a way out of the impasse. Al-Maliki also seems to have changed his mind and issued a statement saying that the turbulent events of the day prompted him to call for dialogue with al-Sadr.

Al-Maliki — al-Sadr's main rival, and both of them are strong in their own right, notes The Guardian.

The United Nations expressed concern about further instability and called on Iraqi leaders to de-escalate. “The voices of reason and wisdom are critical to preventing further violence. All involved are encouraged to reduce tensions for the benefit of all Iraqis,” — said at the UN.

In his speech, Acting Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi called on his compatriots to show restraint.

“Political blocs must sit down at the negotiating table and reach an understanding for the sake of Iraq and Iraqis”, — he said and ordered the security forces to protect the demonstrators.

During the day, al-Sadr's supporters, many of whom had come not only from Baghdad but also from other provinces to stage a sit-in, continued to crowd outside the parliament building, raising Iraqi flags and al-Sadr's portraits. They chanted slogans against foreign intervention in what became a veiled reference to Iran.

This was the second time in four days that the cleric had ordered his followers to operate inside the Green Zone. Wednesday, after protesters similarly stormed parliament, they left shortly after sneaking in at the command of Muqtada al-Sadr.

Wednesday's show of force came after al-Sadr's rivals made a move forward in their efforts to form a government, naming Mohammed al-Sudani as their candidate for prime minister.

Inside the parliament, defense by the security forces became less intense during the day, and many security forces were seen sitting and talking to demonstrators . Later, part of the protesters began to move from parliament to the building of the judicial council.

“We came today to remove the corrupt political class and prevent it from holding a meeting of parliament, — Raad Tabet, 41, said. — We responded to al-Sadr's call.

Many protesters were dressed in black to mark the days leading up to Ashura, commemorating the death of Imam Hussein, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and one of the most important figures in Shiite Islam. Al-Sadr's address to his followers used an important day in Shia Islam to fuel protests.

“Abkhaz” told how the legendary “Pyatnashka” fights

“A fighter with a muddy mind is a hole in the defense”

The commander of the legendary international brigade “Pyatnashka” of the DPR corps, Akhra Avidzba, callsign “Abkhaz”, is perhaps one of the few commanders in ranks of the People's Militia of the DPR, who agree to comment on the course of a special military operation. When I asked why, unlike most, talking to the press doesn't scare him, “Abkhaz” replies that it's a matter of habit.

– I don't think the other guys are afraid of anything. If people are not afraid in battle, why should they be afraid to speak their mind? Most likely, it is simply unusual for them. They worry that they might miss something important. Of course, I admit that the leadership of some units does not want one of their subordinates to “shine” on camera.

“I wouldn’t say that,” Ahra corrects me. – All units that have existed in Donbass since 2014 have already become legendary. “Sparta”, “Somalia”, “First Slavic Brigade” … Everyone had their own nuggets. The same Oplot, on the basis of which two brigades were subsequently born at once: the Fifth and the Hundredth. There are many outstanding divisions, just some at some point underestimated the power of the media, and therefore they could be forgotten a little. But, in spite of everything, we must remember them, tell them, and write them into history as it really was. We came here during the battles for the Donetsk airport, in July 2014, but there are guys who stood up for Donbass back in March. And we must not forget about them.

I did not immediately become a commander. The first person to lead Pyatnashka was a volunteer with the call sign Taiga. He was a retired military man, an artilleryman. But it so happened that the guys could not perceive him as a commander.

– I am convinced that twenty percent of success depends on them, and maybe more. The power of the media is the power of thought and persuasion. It forms the perception and attitude to everything that happens, both among our supporters and our opponents.

The military correspondents who go in the forefront along with the assault groups and show how everything really happens deserve great respect. These are the real heroes.

Western propaganda works well, to be fair, but we work better. Because the truth is on our side. Our military journalists show how selflessly the defenders of Donbass fight and how the enemy flees, leaving behind devastation.

Ukrainians do not feel sorry for anything here, these are not their people and not their land. Whenever I hear the speeches of military leaders from the side that they are fighting for their own, I have a question: “If you are supposedly fighting for your land, then why are you doing it in balaclavas? Why are you hiding your faces? Who and what are you afraid of? We came here as volunteers and never hid our faces.

– I can't say that only “Fifteen” aspire. Then there would be no people in other divisions. As for our team, I believe that it is very important that there be mutual understanding and similarity of characters. It would seem that many Caucasians are fighting in the Donbass, but we are not all going to one unit. Everyone's characters are different. For example, I always try to communicate with my fighters in the simplest possible language, and not give orders in a military way. Even when journalists offer me to ask questions before an interview, I always refuse. Because, in my opinion, a person should answer simply how he feels, and not prepare in advance. If you don't know the answer, say “I don't know.” It's better than if I make up something, search the Internet, and look implausible.

Yes, you are right, a lot of people come to us, but the main thing here is to understand that getting into the brigade is only the beginning of the journey. The main thing is whether a person can resist. We, for example, absolutely can not drink alcohol. Many people think that we are joking when we warn about it. But for us this is one of the key requirements. If someone feels a fume, we immediately tear off the uniform from this person and throw him over the fence. A fighter with a muddy mind is a hole in the defense.

– Even the enemy does not ask me such questions, – Akhra laughs. – All right, we have the equipment. At first we were an infantry unit, then we became a motorized infantry unit. Now even partially artillery and tank. We have everything, it's a sin to complain. We use technology in different ways. A tank is like a gun, a gun is like a tank. We manage to fire mortars like a cannon. There are tricks and tricks. When you are not linear and not so “direct” in your training, but an amateur and an experimenter, then everything turns out to be much more interesting. Therefore, we use everything for its intended purpose, but not always as it is written in the textbooks.

– This is loudly said. Everything new is well forgotten old. Simply, since we are not specialists, we like to study everything in practice. Each technique has its own capabilities, and each fighter has his own ingenuity.

There should be memories in the life of any person. “Groundhog Day” is hard to remember later, it is of the same type. Therefore, we must live in such a way that there is something to remember, so that our stories do not end.

– Yes. And I have been counting them not since the beginning of the special military operation, but since 2014. But our tears will not help those fighters who cannot be returned. They must be avenged. And do it in cold blood, not with a hot head, so as not to ruin the rest. Therefore, subordinates must be treated like a father, but at the same time understand that there is no time to inflate snot. It is necessary to bring the matter to victory, and we will mourn those who did not return later. Now we must live. Live not only for yourself, but also for those who left.

Boris Johnson still has a chance to become NATO Secretary General

Just wait two years

Poor, poor Johnson. The outgoing British prime minister is apparently not destined to continue his political career. Such an enticing, seemingly directly tailored post of NATO Secretary General turned out to be inaccessible to him. And, what is most offensive, for reasons beyond Johnson's own control. According to a TASS source in Brussels: “The main reason is that there is an unspoken consensus in NATO that a woman should become the next secretary general of the alliance, and preferably a representative of the new NATO countries.”

Photo: AP

All this may seem like an evil propaganda joke of Russian journalists. After all, this is not a casting for a youth series. But no. Ten days ago, the influential American publication Politico reported that three women were the main contenders for the outgoing Jens Stoltenberg. And these three fit the criteria described by TASS: ex-president of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite, ex-president of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid and ex-president of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. Only now the main contender for the Russian agency is different: former Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas.

What can Boris Johnson do against this “tacit consensus”. This is the “Freedom, Equality, Fraternity” of our days. What can oppose “inclusiveness” to a white, heterosexual, and even recently married man, Boris Johnson.

When the president of the world (more precisely, the United States) Biden publicly boasts: “I have more members of the LGBT community working for me than in any other administration. Than in all other administrations combined,” Johnson has only one chance. Yes, let now the “consensus” is on the side of the Baltic women. But it's not forever. In two years there will be new elections, and blondes in the role of general secretaries will seem like a mossy yesterday. And maybe then it's time for something cooler. Transgender women, for example.

In the US, that time has come. An example is the success story of the famous American transgender woman, Admiral Rachel Levin (the same man in a naval tunic, skirt and pumps). Then Richard Levin was born in 1957, trained as a pediatrician, got married and even became the father of two children. But since 2000 he began to wear long hair, and since 2011 he left his wife with children and asked to be considered a woman. The main American magazine “USA Today” declared Rachel “Woman of the Year”. And then she “unexpectedly” became very lucky with her career. In 2015 – Chief Medical Officer of the state (the first transgender in such a position). Two years later – the Minister of Health of the state (of course, the first transgender in such a position). In 2021, he is already the assistant secretary of health for all America (you guessed it, the first transgender in this position). In addition, such a post is not just appointed, but confirmed in the Senate. And Rachel became the first transgender person to be confirmed in office by the Senate. For this to happen, in addition to the Democrats, two Republican senators had to vote for her. And I don’t even want to think about what and where the “tacit consensus” promised them for this. And at the end of the same 2021, Rachel, who had not served in the army for a day, was awarded the rank of four-star admiral in the US public health officer corps. (And guess what: the first transgender, of course).

Is it possible to assume that until the age of 54, a man who worked as a pediatrician did not show any leadership qualities, and only when he put on a skirt, he was suddenly pushed to become a wonderful medical organizer.

Producer Weinstein had just been imprisoned for life ( for 23 years) for the fact that he arranged a career as an artist through bed. And what about the career of Admiral Rachel Levin?

So Boris Johnson is still quite capable of becoming Secretary General of NATO. You only need to publicly “feel like a woman” in a couple of years. After all, now this does not require any surgical operations or courses of injections with hormones. Only a statement. Tint eyebrows, eyelashes. A hairstyle like this will do.

In the USA, recidivists who have spent decades in prison and suddenly feel like women are transferred to women's colonies. They think it's worth it.

Well, if it doesn't work out with transgenderism, you can wait for some next “inclusiveness” twist. Bestiality, for example, everyone loves cats.

“We warned you”: Chinese experts outlined a response to Pelosi’s visit

“Won't she regret being the catalyst for China's reunification with Taiwan”

After Beijing urged US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to cancel her visit to Taiwan, The Chinese military began exercises off the coast of the island. And the Chinese press is threatening Americans with the headlines “Don't say we didn't warn you.”

China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducts “live-fire drill” amid US House Speaker Pelosi's possible visit to Taiwan.

China said it was conducting military exercises off its coast opposite Taiwan after Beijing urged Nancy Pelosi to drop possible plans to visit Taipei, The Guardian reported.

China's official Xinhua news agency reported that the People's Liberation the army conducted a “live-fire exercise” near the Pingtan Islands in Fujian province from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm on Saturday. The Maritime Safety Administration has warned ships to avoid the area.

In another incident, Taiwan's defense ministry said it twice spotted an unidentified drone flying over Dongyin Island, which is controlled by Taiwan but located near mainland China, on Thursday, adding that it could not rule out that the drone was used to “gather intelligence” in this area. The Taiwanese Defense Ministry's statement does not mention China or suggest who may have flown the drone.

Tensions between the United States and China have been rising over a potential trip to Taiwan by Nancy Pelosi, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping recently told US President Joe Biden that “if you play with fire, you'll get burned.” President Xi Jinping warned his American counterpart, Joe Biden, in a telephone conversation Thursday about “outside interference” in Beijing's relations with Taipei.

China says that Taiwan has no right to conduct foreign relations. Beijing views visits by US officials there as an encouragement to the island to formally declare its independence.

Nancy Pelosi, who will become the highest-ranking US elected official to visit Taiwan since 1997, has not yet confirmed whether she will go whether she is on an island that China considers its territory.

This week, China's Defense Department urged Washington not to allow Pelosi, Biden's equal in rank to head one of the three US branches of government, to visit Taiwan. The spokesman said the PLA would take some “strong action” to halt pro-independence activities.

The Pentagon is developing a security plan involving ships and aircraft to ensure Pelosi's safety should she visit to Taiwan.

Meanwhile, the PLA is sending increasing numbers of fighters and bombers to the area near Taiwan and has fired missiles along sea lanes leading to the island in the past.

As The Guardian recalls, Taiwan and China split in 1949 after a civil war ended in victory for the Communists on the mainland. Both governments claim to be one country but disagree over who is entitled to national leadership. They have no official relationship, but they are linked by billions of dollars of trade and investment.

In anticipation of Pelosi's possible visit to Taiwan, the Chinese semi-official publication Global Times published a scathing article containing the phrase “Don't say we didn't warn you!”. This phrase was used in the People's Daily in 1962, before the start of the border war between China and India and before the Sino-Vietnamese War in 1979. It was mentioned frequently at a forum held Friday by a senior Chinese think tank, where analysts warned that if the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives ventures to visit Taiwan on his tour of Asia, “military options and comprehensive countermeasures from the economy to diplomacy.”

According to the Global Times, China's various ministries and departments also issued a number of warnings last week in response to Pelosi's possible visit to the island of Taiwan. On Friday, the Taiwan Studies Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, a top-level think tank, held a forum with analysts to discuss the damage that Pelosi's possible visit to the island of Taiwan could have on China-US relations and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

“China's responses will be systematic and not limited to a small scale, given the severity of Pelosi's actions and the damage to political trust on the part of China-US relations,” said Yang Mingjie, head of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' Taiwan Studies Institute.

Yang Mingze pointed out that China reiterated its opposition to Pelosi's possible visit and used the phrase “yanzhen yidai”, literally meaning “arranging army formation to await the enemy”, to show that the Chinese have made all preparations for fighting or any challenge.

There are several measures the PLA can take when Pelosi arrives on the island of Taiwan. For example, Chinese fighter jets can fly alongside and monitor Pelosi's plane as they fly over the airport where her plane lands in Taiwan, naval expert Wang Yunfei told the Global Times.

The PLA may also designate the air and sea zones around the island of Taiwan as restricted areas to discourage Pelosi's plane from flying. Chinese fighter jets could also fly over the island to start a new model for dealing with separatist military operations on the island, Wang Yunfei suggested, noting that it is also possible to launch missiles around Taiwan and conduct military exercises.

Military analysts also note that the PLA may conduct large-scale military exercises around Taiwan, including in the waters between the island and Japan, as well as between Taiwan and Guam. The PLA exercises will also include joint efforts by all branches of the PLA military with all combat elements, including electronic warfare, missile and long-range missile strikes, air superiority and control of the sea, amphibious landings, as well as anti-missile and anti-missile actions, blockade of territory from outside military intervention.

As Wu Yongping, director of the Institute of Taiwan Studies at Tsinghua University, commented to the Global Times, mainland China's countermeasures will be comprehensive in the military, diplomatic, economic fields and public opinion. If Pelosi insists on a visit, China could turn the incident into an opportunity to take control of the Taiwan Strait and push for reunification.

If so, won't Pelosi regret being the catalyst for China's reunification? » Wu Yongping asks.

The words “Don't say we didn't warn you” have become the catchphrase used by Chinese official media as the most serious warning ever given before the actual start of military operations, Global Times recalls.

“The US should not underestimate the determination of the Chinese people to protect the fundamental interests of sovereignty, integrity and security at all times. Nor should they repeat a miscalculation made in the 1950s during the Korean War. Even though China was not strong at that time, it still had the courage to wage war when it was cornered, and by then it will definitely not sit idly by,” says Yang Mingjie.

< p>The countermeasures in China's toolbox include specific and strategic, as well as quick and long-term measures, and it will take various measures in accordance with Pelosi's interactions with separatists from the island of Taiwan, writes Global Times. If she makes a visit, the possibility of China recalling the US ambassador cannot be ruled out, analysts say, also referring to imposing sanctions on those associated with the visit.

Pelosi due to his paranoid anti-China ideas and selfish political interests provoked the Taiwan issue and sent a wildly misleading signal to the separatist forces in Taiwan. If this leads to the intensification and loss of control of separatist activities, it will harm the national interests of the United States, and it is the United States that should pay the bill, said Zhu Weidong, deputy director of the Taiwan Studies Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

“We have become accustomed to shelling over the years, but such mines — this is a new gift to us from the Ukrainian military. I heard explosions last night and even left the house in the evening. I was walking here in the dark, but today I look, it turns out that I was walking and did not see that everything was mined under my feet. Just lucky. Who is all this for? On our children? There are only peaceful people here. Center of Donetsk», – said one of the residents of the city.

— In the absence of a partner, birds of prey can become attached to a person, considering him to be a representative of their species. And build nests, and tower — says zoologist, candidate of biological sciences Timofey Barabashin. — Smaller birds can perceive a person as several objects. There is a case described when a jackdaw used a man's pocket as a nest, and his hand as a partner. And if you raise chicks from a young age, they may take you for parents.

Zelensky allowed a two-fold reduction in the grain harvest in Ukraine

Last year, Ukraine had a record grain harvest – more than 100 million tons, according to the results of 2022, the Ukrainian Grain Association predicts about 66.5 million tons< source srcset=" 800w" type="image/webp" media="(max-width: 400px) and (min-resolution: 192dpi)" >

The grain harvest in Ukraine in 2022 may be halved from the usual indicators, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on his Twitter. He did not provide specific data.

“Ukrainian harvest this year may be half as much. Our main goal— prevent a global food crisis caused by the Russian invasion, — he wrote.

Zelensky added that the search for alternative ways to supply Ukrainian grain is now ongoing.

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the harvest of grain and oilseeds in 2021 amounted to 107.38 million t. This is a record in the entire history of Ukraine, said the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Roman Leshchenko. In 2020, against the background of the pandemic, the Ukrainian grain harvest amounted to 65.4 million tons, in 2019— 75.2 million tons

In June, the Ukrainian Grain Association predicted a harvest in 2022 at a level of about 66.5 million tons, and exports, subject to a doubling of throughput at the borders with the EU,— 30 million tons. If the logistics capacity remains at the current level, Ukraine will be able to deliver abroad 12-18 million tons, the association indicated.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the export of wheat from the ports of the country was blocked. Kyiv and the UN blamed Moscow for this. The Russian Defense Ministry has stated that ships with grain cannot leave the ports because of Ukrainian mines and the risk of shelling. Western countries warned of the risk of global famine, and UN Secretary General António Guterres proposed lifting some of the sanctions against Russia in order to prevent a food crisis.

On July 22, Ukraine and Russia separately signed an agreement with the UN and Turkey on the export of grain from the ports of Odessa, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny. According to the document, a safe corridor is being created for the export of grain by sea, representatives of Turkey and the UN will monitor the loading, and check ships at the entrance and exit in the Black Sea— coordination center, which included Ankara, Moscow, Kyiv and the UN. The latter is necessary in order to exclude the transport of weapons in empty courts, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

Ukraine has already begun preparations for sending the first ships with grain. Vladimir Zelensky arrived at the port of Chernomorsk (Odessa region) on July 29. There was a loading of grain on a Turkish ship. The press secretary of the Turkish President, Ibrahim Kalyn, said that the first ship could leave the Ukrainian port on August 1.

The Russian Foreign Ministry insists that grain exports from Ukraine and Russia should begin at the same time. In the agreement, UN Secretary General António Guterres undertook to contribute to the removal of restrictions on the export of Russian food. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov explained that, as part of the sanctions, Western countries banned ship insurance, their entry into foreign ports and the entry of foreign ships— into Russia, which has become an obstacle to grain operations from Russia.

Turkey admits that grain deliveries from Ukraine will begin within a day

Erdogan's representative: probably the first ship with grain will leave Odessa on August 1 Grain is loaded onto the first ships that can leave Odessa as early as August 1, Ankara believes. Turkish cargo ship Polarnet loads Ukrainian grain in the port of Odessa region

Preparations for the departure of the first ship with Ukrainian grain have been completed, it will probably leave Odessa on Monday, August 1. This was stated by the representative of the Turkish President Ibrahim Kalyn on Kanal7.

“Ships are ready to leave the port of Odessa. The first ship will probably leave the port tomorrow morning,— he said (quote from Anadolu).

Kalyn suggested that the situation would contribute to the resumption of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine if the agreements reached on July 22 to guarantee the safe export of grain from three Ukrainian ports are successfully implemented. A similar opinion was previously expressed by the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Mevlut Chavosoglu, indicating that the agreement could increase trust between Moscow and Kyiv.

According to CNN T & uuml; rk, 16 ships will pass as part of the first convoy, they will arrive in Turkish territorial waters by August 3. After shipment in Turkey, the grain is likely to go to Somalia. The UN pointed out that almost 250 thousand people in this country have already faced hunger.

Shortly after the conclusion of the grain agreement, the Ukrainian authorities doubted the prospects for dialogue with Russia, the reason was the blow Russian forces in the port of Odessa. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the incident “blatant Russian barbarism,” expressing confidence that the incident “destroyed the very possibility” of theses on the need for dialogue with Russia.

The Kremlin did not see any threat to the export of grain from Ukraine after the incident. “This is also related exclusively to the military infrastructure. This is in no way related to the infrastructure that is used to fulfill the agreements and export grain. Therefore, this cannot affect in any way, should not affect the beginning of the shipment process, — stated the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

How Pelosi’s Asian tour strained U.S.-China relations

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has begun an Asian tour, during which she may visit Taiwan. The trip takes place against the background of military threats from China and the aggravation of relations between Washington and Beijing =”image/webp” media=”(max-width: 320px) and (min-resolution: 192dpi)” >< source srcset=" 800w" type="image/webp" media="(max-width: 400px) and (min-resolution: 192dpi)" >

How Pelosi's visit to the Pacific is coming along

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi began her tour of East Asia on Saturday. As part of the trip, she is expected to visit Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and South Korea. A visit to partially recognized Taiwan, which China considers part of its territory, is questionable.

Pelosi planned to visit Taiwan back in April, but postponed the trip indefinitely due to the fact that she became ill with the coronavirus. Officially, the speaker of the House of Representatives did not declare her intention to make a stop in Taipei, citing security issues, but did not deny such a possibility. If the visit goes ahead, Pelosi will be the first sitting speaker of the US House of Representatives to visit Taiwan since Republican Newt Gingrich visited Taiwan in 1997.

The US does not officially recognize Taiwanese independence and maintains a so-called “one China policy” but maintains strong trade relations with Taipei. For Pelosi, the current tour could be the last foreign trip of his career. The 82-year-old speaker of the House of Representatives is preparing to retire this fall. At the same time, the politician is known for her uncompromising position towards Beijing, and a visit to the capital of Taiwan could be the culmination of her efforts in this direction. It is symbolic that a potential visit to Taiwan by the third most important politician in the United States is scheduled on the eve of the annual holiday of the People's Liberation Army of China, which is celebrated on August 1.

According to Politico, Pelosi's visit to Taipei had not been conclusively confirmed as of Friday, but the Pentagon continued to prepare for it. The fact that the visit is in doubt, NBC sources also reported. The Taiwanese capital was supposed to be Pelosi's first stop on his Pacific tour. On Saturday afternoon Moscow time, a US Air Force Boeing C-40C with registration number 09-0540, on which Pelosi was believed to be, took off from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and headed for the Pacific Ocean. The Flightradar24 service did not indicate the final destination of the flight. A record number of people followed its course with the help of the service: by 16:00 Moscow time, more than 100 thousand people were watching the flight. As a result, the US Air Force plane landed in the capital of the state of Hawaii, the city of Honolulu. The Flightradar24 service made further movements of the board unavailable for viewing.

instructionsAfter the first reports appeared about a possible visit of Pelosi to Taiwan in China, they condemned him. Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijiang said such a visit would “seriously undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, seriously affect the foundation of Sino-US relations, and send the wrong signal to Taiwan's independence forces.” Beijing also announced its readiness to take retaliatory measures.

Later, the Chinese Ministry of Defense made it clear about the nature of the response: “If the United States insists on its own course, the Chinese military will never sit idly by,” & mdash; the department said. In turn, US President Joe Biden, commenting on Pelosi's plans to visit Taiwan, said that, according to the US military, this trip now “does not seem like a good idea,” noting that he does not know what its status is. At the same time, Biden did not urge Pelosi to give it up.

Later, Beijing's rhetoric towards Washington became tougher. The Financial Times, citing sources, said China privately warned the Biden administration about the possible military implications of Pelosi's decision to visit Taiwan. These threats were more significant than those that came from the Chinese side before. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has publicly stated that the consequences of Pelosi's visit will be the responsibility of the United States.

According to CNN, Washington tried to explain to Pelosi the risks of such a trip. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan opposed her visit. As a result, on July 28, a telephone conversation took place between Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which lasted more than two hours. According to Chinese reports, Xi told Biden that the US should abide by its “one China policy,” adding, “Those who play with fire will end up getting burned.”

In turn, Biden assured his counterpart that the United States is not deviating from its position on adhering to the “one China policy.” On the day of the start of Pelosi's big tour, Beijing began a live-fire exercise in the waters of the eastern province of Fujian, which is shared by the strait with Taiwan. The United States has also increased its naval presence in the region.

Could Pelosi's visit to Taiwan lead to a military conflict between the United States and China

Over the past 70 years, there have been three major crises between China, Taiwan and the United States, the last of them — in 1995–1996. Then China and the United States undertook a series of naval maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait zone. According to Wu Xinbo, director of the Center for American Studies at Fudan University in Shanghai, Pelosi's visit to Taiwan could provoke a new crisis, similar to the events of those years. At the same time, the expert notes that China's military power has increased significantly over the past 26 years. Shi Yinhong, professor of international relations at Renmin University of China, agrees with him, according to whom “China will respond with unprecedented countermeasures” the strongest it has ever hosted since the Taiwan Strait crisis.

Director of the Asian Marshall Fund Asia Program Bonnie Glaser, a former China consultant for the US Department of Defense and State Department, wrote in an op-ed for The New York Times that Pelosi's visit could be a “dangerous gamble.” According to the expert, none of the parties wants a military conflict, but in the current situation there is a risk of its occurrence. Xi Jinping is preparing to run for a third term at the head of China in the autumn and cannot show his weakness under these conditions. Beijing also believes that the United States is moving away from its policy towards Taiwan and may soon recognize its independence. This is facilitated by the preparation of amendments to the Law on Relations with Taiwan, which determines US policy, as well as a number of Biden's statements about the readiness to provide military assistance to the island, which were later adjusted by the US presidential administration.

Iran’s state agency reports skirmish with Taliban at border

On the Iran-Afghan border, there was a shootout between the Taliban and border guards from Iran, the governor of Helmand district said. He noted that the shooting continues, there is no information about the wounded or dead< source srcset=" 1200w" type="image/webp" media="(min-resolution: 192dpi) " >

In the Iranian region of Helmand bordering Afghanistan, a shootout took place between Iranian border guards and a detachment of the Taliban. (terrorist organization, banned in Russia). This was reported by the Iranian official agency IRNA with reference to the head of the district, Meysam Barazande.

He said that the armed conflict between the military continues, there are no data on the injured and dead yet.

This is not the first skirmish between the parties, one of them took place in December last year, the reason then was disputes over the ownership of agricultural land. Several Iranian farmers stepped outside the walls erected to fight smugglers in the Shagalak region, remaining within the borders of Iran. However, the Taliban believed that the Iranians had entered their territory and opened fire. The Iranian side fired back.

“Taliban” seized power in Afghanistan last August. Almost a year later, by the end of July 2022, the number of ISIS fighters banned in Russia and the terrorist organization ISIS has sharply increased in the country, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. “The estimated number reached 6 thousand people, although after the Taliban came to power, their number was about 2 thousand,” — said Zamir Kabulov, Director of the Second Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Special Representative of the President of Russia for Afghanistan. He called this dynamic “the most negative side” of the development of the situation.

The Taliban government rejected this information, calling the relevant information an “ISIS terrorist campaign.” “The Islamic Emirate and the Afghan people do not allow ISIS to nest in Afghanistan. Here, ISIS has been defeated and is in the process of liquidation,” — stressed government spokesman Zabiulla Mujahid.

From August 1, the agreement between Russia and Latvia on the facilitation of mutual travel between residents of border areas will be suspended, this decision was made by the Latvian government, reports.

The Latvian Foreign Ministry explained that due to the closure of the Latvian consulate in Pskov by Russia, the issuance of border permits became impossible, this diplomatic mission of the republic was the only one with such powers. The agreement on trips of border residents has been in force since 2010, the issue of its implementation was considered earlier by the commission of the Seimas of Latvia, recommending the Cabinet of Ministers to suspend its operation.

The agreement between the parties was concluded in 2010.

Latvia actually stopped issuing visas to Russians, official Moscow noted, and the Latvian Foreign Ministry called on the entire European Union to join this decision. “I repeat the proposal to introduce a ban on EU tourist visas for [Russian] citizens,” — said Minister Edgars Rinkevics.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the decision to close the Pskov consulate of Latvia at the end of April. “Based on the principle of reciprocity, and also taking into account the provision by the authorities of these countries of military assistance to the Kyiv regime and their cover-up of the crimes of Ukrainian nationalists against the civilian population of Donbass and Ukraine,” — the ministry explained the reasons for the decision. All employees of the consulate were declared persona non grata, they were ordered to leave Russia.

At the end of July, the Latvian State Security Service (SSS) reported on thorough checks of Russians and Belarusians who enter Latvia in order to support a special operation in Ukraine. Particular attention is paid to those foreigners who “publicly display symbols praising” actions of Russian troops in Ukraine, the department noted. At least 41 Russians and 14 Belarusians were denied entry to the republic, the State Security Service specified, without naming the period for which the data were collected.

The LSM portal cited the story of a Latvian citizen named Svetlana, her husband (a citizen of Russia with residence permit in Latvia) upon his return from Russia, he was forced to sign a document condemning the actions of Russian forces in Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned this practice and protested to Dace Rutke, Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Latvia. “A strong protest was expressed to her and a corresponding note was handed over to her about the provocative actions of the Latvian law enforcement agencies,” — said in the message of the ministry.

In Sevastopol introduced a yellow level of danger after the attack on the headquarters of the fleet

On the morning of July 31, the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet attacked a makeshift drone with an explosive device. Six people were injured< source srcset=" 590w" type="image/webp" >

The consequences of the strike on the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet

In Sevastopol, a yellow level of terrorist threat was introduced after a drone strike at the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet, Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev said on his Telegram channel.

“Yellow Level” the middle level of the three existing ones. This means that security measures will be maximally strengthened, — the message says.

According to Razvozhaev, such a measure is “preventive”; character and means the effort of the work of special services. This will not affect the life of Sevastopol residents, he added.

On July 31, the day of the Russian Navy, Razvozhaev reported that at about 06:00 an explosion had occurred on the territory of the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet after being hit by a drone. As a result, six people were injured, two of them are in a state of moderate severity. The press service of the Black Sea Fleet reported that a home-made drone with a low-power explosive device was used for the attack.

For security reasons, it was decided to cancel the celebrations dedicated to the Navy Day, and the residents of Sevastopol were advised to stay at home.

Senators from Crimea Sergey Tsekov and Olga Kovitidi expressed the opinion that the attack did not occur from the territory of Ukraine. “It is highly likely that this was committed from the territory of the Crimea or specifically Sevastopol, because this is a homemade drone, it is unlikely that it flew from the territory of Ukraine,” — Tsekov told RBC. In his opinion, the attack was carried out by citizens of Ukraine or those who support them. Kovitidi expressed the opinion that the attack could have been carried out from the territory of Sevastopol, but stressed that this information could not yet be confirmed. “We cannot say today about where and how the explosion occurred, the perpetrators are being sought,” — said the RBC senator.
